BBy - had this been a legitimate try, I would not have been so hard on it.  But it is obviously not. Look at it - it's just a mess. These aren't just mistakes, they are marks of someone who is merely typing with one hand. Not only that, but it is quite disturbing in the content that even is understandable. I don't believe it would get bashed here because I don't believe we, the administration, would even leave it posted.

As far as them being real people with real feelings, if they read my post and they feel ashamed at the "story" they posted - good! They SHOULD feel ashamed about that thing. Not everyone can write a story, but anyone has enough sense to be able to read what they typed and say, "OMG - this is REALLY bad ... I can't post that!"

The misspellings are not of my own trust me.

Yes I hate crappy stories to and I have read this one. It is not the best story in the world but I would rather give criticism to help them out then telling them what a shitty story they wrote. Grow up.

Just because someone is not born writing “perfect stories” that aren't to your liking does not give anyone the right to bash and embarrass them.

Ask Wings how many bad stories hes written when he started. I'm sure it took a lot of constructive criticism and help from others to get the the point he is today.

Think how he would feel or anyone would if the shoe was on the other foot. If this thread was about one of his stories or one of yours. I don't think you would like to be humiliated in such a way.

Whats worse it was an admin. Admins should not be starting threads like this it should have been deleted before it got this far.

I agree on that one Kita. It is a very terrible story. It's confusing, has no point, seems like it was done in a rush and not even proof read.

I Like Wings approach better. Atleast the writter learned something (hopefully).

Sorry if I went off on you but dont think anyone should be singled out like this. If anything we're giving he story to much attension.

It will only embarrass you if you let it. This is the internet. Just take everything you see here with a grain of salt.

Tell you what. When you become an admin here you can delete it.

Once again, if you don't like it, leave. No one is holding a gun to your head and forcing you to read this forum.

I believe I have a right to start a thread on whatever I like in my own house.

You asked what if someone had done something like this with one of the stories I started out by writing. What you fail to take into account is what I have said several times.  I am not bashing it because someone made a legitimate try and failed. I am bashing it because it wasn't even a legitimate try. I had my share of bad stories when I started, just like everybody else, but had I written something like this I would not have posted it. If I had somehow lost my mind and posted it ... I certainly would not want people telling me how good it was, like some did on this other forum.

A few things bugged me.  It bugged me that someone would insult my intelligence by posting this as though it was really worth reading. It bugged me that the forum on which it was posted does not allow critique. And it bugged me that someone people there actually encouraged it to continue.

Well don't bite my head off.  I think the critique was mean.  It is true that it does meet the standards of this board and I stopppped reading soon after starting.  I do think it is a legitiment attempt.  It is better than some stories I read.

Of course it is mean. I SAID it was mean right from the beginning.  I meant for it to be mean.

But if I were REALLY mean, I would have put the author's name.

People without writing ability who simply do not put effort into their writing deserve to be told how much they suck. Not being a good writer is forgiveable (It's why I hope to teach, actually. I want to help people become better writers). Not caring about being a good writer while continuing to write, on the other hand, is not. It's particularly offensive when these would-be writers are transparently fishing for praise and attention. I've lost track of how many terrible stories we get here that end with the author saying "let me know what u think."

You know what else is infuriating? It's not that hard to get better!

1.) READ!!! Read good shit. Read shit that interests you. Read shit that challenges you even if it isn't your favorite. Pay attention to how it's constructed. See if any of the techniques the authors use can be applied to your own work.

2.) THINK about what you are writing. Even if all you write are AB/DL stories, they have to be more than simply fantasies transposed to paper (or to a computer screen, as the case may be). Just because it makes sense in your head doesn't mean it will when you type it out. Just because the idea seems appealing to you doesn't mean it will appeal to prospective readers. Ask yourself: who are your characters, what are they doing, why are they doing it? If you can't answer these questions, you don't have a story, you just have an undeveloped idea.

3.) LISTEN to what others have to say about your work. Sometimes, they will see things that you don't. Sometimes, they will be dead wrong. But you should at least consider every bit of advice you recieve, even if you dismiss it in short order. Don't accept ANYTHING (be it criticism or praise) you recieve at face value, but consider EVERYTHING on its merits.

If you aren't willing to do this much, you have no real business subjecting others to your writing. If you just want to spew wordage, keep a diary or get a fucking blog. You're wasting space here.

(end of rant)
i'll drink to that!

if people aren't going to read crap stories when they are in paper form they're not gonna read them online either!
